The Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG) Priority Club includes the brands Intercontinental, Holiday Inn, Candlewood Suites, Staybridge Suites, and Crowne Plaza. With the exception of their limited list of “Pointbreaks” hotels priced at 5,000 points/night, IHG points are among the least valuable in the industry, with their top-tier hotels going for 50,000 points/night.
Special deals: The list of 50-100 worldwide Pointbreaks hotels changes quarterly, and if one of them happens to fit into your travel plans (or vice versa), then it is a steal! But it is very hit-or-miss, and many of the hotels on the list aren’t anything special. I generally shoot for the highest-cash-priced hotels to maximize your point redemption value.
Besides the Pointbreaks list, these points are not very valuable (relative to others). Even if you get the 60,000 (or occasionally 80,000) point Chase Intercontinental card, that does not even get you two nights at a top-tier hotel. But it is always good to diversify and have some of these points in the bank for a rainy day.
